Animation Assignment

What is Animatic ?

A preliminary form of a television commercial consisting of a series of drawings with a voice-over. Most people don't know that almost every advert and feature film they sit and watch had an animatic made for it.The animatic is a very important part of the journey from script to screen and yet you're unlikely to see or hear about it because it is a long and really problematic process.
If the animatic isn't planned and executed well the whole job could be pulled by the client. For me Animatics is mostly a first step of how great and creative ideas of any film or game project is set  in motion to tell a story reflecting and highlighting skills of technician creating it.

Modern Animatics
Advances in Hardware and software have created a whole new process of producing life like animatic's that can be done on a computer without using physical objects like in old days before 3D. As a result animatics have become more animated and more complex, some of the animatics created by amateur's can be very similar to the popular and finished ads on TV made by professionals.
Below is an example of an "Dragon age" animatic made in 2013/14http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qh7namt11Tk

The most popular types of animatic at the moment are the 2d and 3d animatic.2d animatics are often drawn on  wacom tablet direct into the computer and then coloured digitally. The art work is still supplied in the same way as “the old days” but now the shots arrive as layered files with moving parts cut out and separated by the illustrator.
The advantages with the modern work flow is many animators are also skilled with the most used art programs, so if the client requires a change to the colour palette or longer sleeves etc, the animator will make the changes and minimise any delays in production.
What is motion graphics ?
People have an idea of what graphic design looks like, but people have different ideas about exactly when it becomes distinct from fine art, photography, illustration, or some other form of digital art. Some formal definitions are flawed because they are too specific, suggesting designs intended for a restricted usage. Other definitions suffer from being overly vague, and allow graphic design to be interpreted as anything using typography or imagery.

Also as the name indicates motion graphics are based on creative imagery set in motion to allow ideas created on paper to be uniquely transform into something that can be all most life like, after a long process of adding layers and changing symmetry of shapes from a paper sketch into 2 or 3 dimensional representation of narrative story.
Motion graphics are generally short pieces of time-based visual media which combine the languages of film and graphic design. This can be accomplished by incorporating a number of different elements such as 2d and 3d animation, video, film, typography, illustration, photography, and even music.
What is Kinetic typography ?
Kinetic typography refers to the art and technique of expression with animated text. Similar to the study of traditional typography of designing static typographic forms, kinetic typography focuses on understanding the effect time has on the expression of text.
Kinetic typography has demonstrated the ability to add significant emotive content and appeal to expressive text, allowing some of the qualities normally found in film and the spoken word to be added to static text. Kinetic type has been widely and successfully used in film as well as in television and computer-based advertising.
